Eurovision World Cup: Semi Final Results

Eurovision 2016This week four countries battled it out in the semi final stages of our first every Eurovision World Cup competition. You have been voting all week in the two match ups that saw Ireland’s Nicky Byrne compete against Austria’s Zoe, while Eneda Tarifa for Albania duked it out with Amir for France. Eurovision World Cup: Semi Final 2: Austria v Ireland

In the second of the semi final matches of the Eurovision World Cup we will see Austria take on Ireland. Austria’s Zoe topped group D with 32% of the vote, beat San Marino in the knock out stages with 76% and then last week conquered Greece with 60%. Ireland’s Nicky Byrne meanwhile also topped his group (Group F) with 63% of the vote, beat the Netherlands with 85% of the vote to advance to the Quarter Finals where they defeated Russia with 76% of the vote. In the last of the quarter final matches of the Eurovision World Cup we will see Greece do battle against Austria. Greece’s Argo were runners up in group H and went on to beat Slovenia in the knock out stages last week with 75% of the vote. Review: Austria- Zoe ‘Loin D’ici’

Zoe Austria Eurovision 2016Austria achieved an amazing feat in 2015 when they managed to be one of two countries to receive nul points, incredible given that 40 nations allotted points on the night and is something that we have not seen since 2003. In 2016 they will be looking to put this behind them and recreate the magic of the year before when Conchita gave them their second ever victory with ‘Rise Like A Phoenix’. Taking on this task will be Zoe with her song ‘Loin d’Ici’ which is curiously the only song this year that will be performed entirely in French. Continue reading
