I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions but this year I thought I would challenge myself. This challenge has come in the form of a vow to read 50 books in 2020. Each of these books will be by an author from a different nation, a nation that has competed in the Eurovision Song Contest.
I have decided on my first four books: ‘My Sister, the Serial Killer’ by Oyinkan Braithwaite (UK/Nigeria), ‘Reykjavik Nights’ by Arnaldur Indridason (Iceland), ‘The Slap’ by Christos Tsiolkas (Australia) and ‘Blindness’ by Jose Saramago (Portugal). After that, I’m going to need your help! Have you read any good books by European authors? Please share your suggestions to help me complete my challenge! Keep in mind that there needs to be an English translation of the book, ideally it would be a contemporary novel and easily digested in a week (250-500 pages).
