Among these shows are three of the Scandinavian nations with Finland and Norway both hosting the final of their national selections and Sweden who will deliver the fourth of their Melodifestivalen shows. With nine last place finishes and failing to qualify for the finals on five occasions since the semi finals were introduced in 2004, Finland’s Eurovision history isn’t one of the greatest. Not only is Lordi’s ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ their only ever win, but it is their only top ten finish that they have had since 1989. Finland have always pushed the envelope when it comes to Eurovision. Lordi performed a rock song in garish masks, Krista Siegrids kissed another woman in 2013 amidst outcry of Russia recently passing anti-LGBT legislation and in the 2015 contest, ‘Aina mun pitää’ was performed by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, a band whose members are all adults with developmental disabilities.
