It’s the fourth week of Eurovision NI’s Song of 2019. This week’s tracks include new efforts from 2014 Eurovision winner Conchita, Noewegian super group KEiiNO, Australian Jessica Mauboy, Icelandic group Hatari and two time Russian representative Sergey Lazarev. Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG have confirmed that the nation will not compete in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The decision was confirmed following whispers on a number of Eurovision fan blogs that this may be the case.
Rock boy band trio Highway were announced as the pick for Montenegro a few months ago. Earlier today the band revealed their song for this year’s contest. The song’s title is ‘The Real Thing’ and you can watch the song’s video here.
What can we say about Montenegro’s track record at Eurovision? Hmm, it’s not great. Their first five attempts 2007-2013 all failed in progressing to the final. Things have got slightly better recently with Sergej Ćetković finishing 19th with ‘Moj Svijet’ in 2014 and last year, despite looking alike a creepy uncle at a wedding, Knez pulled off the best Montenegrin result ever with ‘Adio’ coming in in 13th place.
Montenegro have not had the best track record at Eurovision. In the six years they have competed to date only one of the acts (last year’s ‘Moj Svijet’ by Sergej Ćetković) has managed to qualify for the final and gave Montenegro their best ever result, finishing in 19th place. This year they are back and are hoping to build on their best result so far with veteran Montenegrin pop star Knez. Read on to find out what we think of their song for 2015 ‘Adio’.
