1994 Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan will play an ‘In the Round’ concert as part of the 2016 Belfast Nashville Songwriters’ Festival. The festival will take place at various venues in Belfast from 2nd-6th March and other acts include former D-Side Singer turned country singer Derek Ryan, Stephen Bishop, Iain Archer, Liam O’Maonlai and John Spillane.

Ireland’s Eurovision fortunes have really taken a turn for the worse ever since their hey days of the late 80s/early 90s when they won a record breaking seven times. While still unbeaten to this day, Ireland haven’t even come close in recent years. They failed to qualify in 2014 with Cann Linn and Kasey Smith. They came in 26th place of 26 in the Final in 2013 with Ryan Dolan. It took Jedward’s ‘Lipstick’ in 2011 to see Ireland with any decent chance of doing well. NewsLast night saw Ireland choose Molly Sterling and her song ‘Playing with Numbers’ to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2015. The 16 year old was chosen over Kat Mahon who’s Charlie McGettigan penned ‘Anybody Got a Shoulder?’ finished in second place. Third place went to Swedish singer Erika Selin and in fourth was early favourite to win Nikki Kavanagh with her song ‘Memories’. Finishing bottom of the pack was Alex Saint’s ‘She’s So Fine’.
