Austria staged their national selection show Wer Singt Fur Osterreich last night. Ten singers took to the stage to perform the song with which they wanted to represent Austria at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

AzRaH wins Austria’s Wildcard Competition
NewsAustrian singer AzRaH has beaten off stiff competition from Laura Kamhuber, Ola Egbowon, Sara Koell and David Siedl feat. Madelene & MC Vio to become Austria’s Wildcard contestant. The Viennese singer won the Facebook competition on 15th January and will go on to compete against nine other pre-selected acts on 12th February in a bid to become the 2016 Austrian Eurovision contestant.

Eurovision Guide 2016, NewsAustria have competed in the Eurovision Song Contest forty eight times and have won the contest on two occasions: Udo Jürgens’ ‘Merci, Chérie’ (1966) and more recently with Conchita Wurst’s ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ in 2014. Until Conchita’s win (and since) Austria have fallen short, only having qualified for 4 finals since 2004. Austria have finished last on eight occasions and have received nul points four times: 1962, 1988, 1991 and last year when the MakeMakes failed to makemake a lasting impression on Europe with ‘I Am Yours’.
