Tonight Eurovision 2020 got its first song! The Albanian selection process Festivali i Kenges hosted its final earlier this evening. The song competition, now in its 58th year crowned Arilena Ara as the winner. She will go on to represent Albania in Rotterdam with the song ‘Shaj’.
It’s hard to believe that we are just one day away from having the first Eurovision 2020 song confirmed. Albania’s FiK58 got underway on Thursday and Friday evening with the two semi final shows. 20 songs competed over the two nights and on Friday night an international jury panel made up of three experts decided which 12 would advance to Sunday’s live final.
FiK58 is the Albanian selection process for Eurovision 2020. It is the first national final to take place and features 20 songs. Eneda Tarifa has been chosen as the act who will represent Albania in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The decision was made with the conclusion of the 54th annual Festival i Kenges which took place over the past three nights. Following two semi finals on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, tonight saw 22 acts compete in the final.
Instead of the originally scheduled 18 acts, 22 artists have made it through to the Albanian national selection final which will take place later tonight. 30 acts in total battled over two semi finals held on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day in a bid to get one step closer to being Albania’s entry for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Eight of these acts have been eliminated from the Festivali i Këngës 2016 competition. Read on to find out which act have been eliminated and which will continue to fight it out in the final.
