Over the past week and a half we have been gradually unveiling our top 100 songs from the last ten years of Eurovision (2007-2016). Now that all has been revealed, here is the full countdown from number 100 to number one!
Romania hosted the final of Selecția Națională 2016 earlier this evening and have chosen Ovidiu Anton as their Eurovision participant. He will sing his song ‘Moment of Silence’ accompanied by what look like Game of Thrones extras, complete with sword dancing and overused smoke machines.
Romania has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 17 times, debuting in the 1994 contest. Along with Russia and Greece, Romania has never missed a final since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004. They have placed in the top ten on five occasions, including two third places which they received in 2005 with Luminița Anghel & Sistem and 2010 with Paula Seling & Ovi. Seling and Ovi returned to Eurovision in 2014 with ‘Miracle’ but couldn’t match their previous success, only placing 12th. Most recently band Voltaj came in 15th with ‘All Over Again’ in 2015.
For die hard Eurovision fans the names of Paula Seling and Ovi may sound familiar. Well that may be because this is not the first time the duo have represented Romania in the contest. The winner of the first battle is:
