Eurovision news has kicked into overdrive this week with more countries beginning their national selection searches, news regarding the Eurovision proceedings in May and more details on announced artists’ songs.
Zurab Alasania, Director General of Ukrainian National broadcaster NTU, has resigned earlier this week citing the non-existent procedures for budgetary spend which amounts to millions of euros as his reason.
Ukraine have selected Crimean Tatar singer Jamala as their representative for 2016. Her song ‘1944’ tells the story of the Crimean people (including her Great-grandmother) who were displaced from their homes by Soviet military forces during the Second World War.
Ukraine staged the second of their semi finals tonight. Three more acts advanced to next week’s finally, joining The Hardkiss, Jamala and Brunettes Shoot Blondes.

Following a years’ absence from Eurovision, Ukrainian broadcaster NTU broadcast the first of its semi final selection shows last night. Nine songs competed in front of a panel of experts which included Eurovision winning act and political activist Ruslana and ‘Lasha Tumbai’ singer Verka Serducka out of drag.
After a one year absence from Eurovision due to financial difficulties associated with the ongoing Ukrainian Crisis, Ukraine are set to make a triumphant return in 2016. Since they began competing in 2003, Ukraine have proven time and again to be one of the more successful countries in the Contest’s recent history. With an unforgettable win in 2004 with Ruslana’s ‘Wild Dances’, back to back second places in 2007 and 2008 with Verka Serduchka and Ani Lorak, and finishing in the top ten eight out of the twelve times they have competed, Ukraine are cementing themselves as a Eurovision force to be reckoned with. But what can we expect in 2016?
