The Eurovision NI Awards are back for a fifth consecutive year in 2020. Unfortunately, the awards will have to take place in a virtual setting this year. This is due to the uncertainties in the entertainment sector regarding being able to host large groups of people indoors in a live event setting as a result of the ongoing COVID 19 Pandemic. But this won’t stop us having the usual fun!

Eurovision NI Awards 2019: WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Eurovision NI Awards 2019, News

We are in the midst of Eurovision Selection Season, then there’s Eurovision itself in May, but Eurovision fans are usually stuck for Eurovision entertainment from June through to December! In 2016 we tried to fill that gap with the launch of the Eurovision NI Awards. In 2019 we want to expand our offering to a bigger venue that can accommodate a bigger audience and we want to put on a Eurovision Extravaganza. In order to do that we need your help and would love it if you could donate to our Kickstarter campaign.

Earlier this evening the third annual Eurovision NI Awards took place in Belfast’s American Bar. The acts from Eurovision 2018 battled it out in eighteen categories from Best Male, Best Female and Best Group to Best Song, Best New Song and Best Song From Selection Shows. It wasn’t all good, we also named and shamed the worst from this year’s participants from Worst Song, Worst Dressed Acts and even crowned the Most Cringeworthy Act.

Also returning for 2018 was the award decided by the readers of our blog: The People’s Choice Award. We received hundreds of votes from devoted fans, but only one act could be crowned the people’s champion in 2018.

Finally we honoured a person who has contributed greatly to Eurovision with the Phoenix: Outstanding Contribution to Eurovision Award. This year’s recipient was Conchita Wurst. She will join Linda Martin and the late Sir Terry Wogan in the Eurovision NI Hall of Fame.
