Last week, as part of the Sydney Mardi Gras celebrations, Conchita Wurst announced that Dami Im would be the second person ever to represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest. However her song would remain a mystery for a little while longer. That mystery is no more as ‘Sound of Silence’ was released earlier today. Listen to the song below.
Australia had been relatively silent (or is it coy?) on who their Eurovision pick for 2016 would be. This hasn’t stopped many people speculating who it would be. Two names were being touted by various press outlets in the Land of Oz- Delta Goodrem and Australian X-Factor Season 5 winner Dami Im. Earlier this week Delta took to social media to deny that she was involved. Therefore when they broke the silence, it came as no shock that Dami Im would be the pick when it was announced earlier today.
It was announced today that the EBU have accepted a proposal which will allow Australia to take part as contestants in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest for the first time which marks the 60th anniversary of the competition. The decision is an historic one and could set a precedent for other guest nations not in Europe to compete at future events.
