This year marked an historic decision from the EBU to allow Australia compete in Eurovision Song Contest in a one off to commemorate 60 years of the competition and to reward the continued support from Australia’s dedicated fan base. Rumours quickly circulated as to which act would be chosen to represent Australia and names being touted included Kylie Minogue, Dannii Minogue, Holly Valance, drag queen Courtney Act, Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes and 2014 semi final interval act Jessica Mauboy. In the end it was announced that the first ever winner of Australian Idol, Guy Sebastian would be Australia’s pick and ‘Tonight Again’ would be the song of choice. It was announced today that the EBU have accepted a proposal which will allow Australia to take part as contestants in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest for the first time which marks the 60th anniversary of the competition. The decision is an historic one and could set a precedent for other guest nations not in Europe to compete at future events.
