Melfest is the Swedish selection show for Eurovision. It has a special place in every Eurofan’s heart. The schlager hit factory has been responsible for launching the careers of superstars like ABBA, Carola, Loreen, Mans Zelmerlow and Sanna Nielsen. A mainstay of the Eurovision calendar, the TV singing competition is set to be immortalised with a new Hall of Fame which will be launched by broadcaster SVT next month.
Portugal will be hoping to return to Eurovision winning form in 2020 when they launch their selection show Festival Da Cancao on 22 February. Earlier this week the national broadcaster RTP revealed the sixteen acts and song titles of the participants in this year’s contest.
Lithuania’s Eurovision selection Eurovizijos will continue this weekend with the second heat show. 12 more acts will compete with the hopes that their songs will be one of the six making it through to the semi final round.
Latvia’s Supernova will select its winner on 8 February. 26 songs had been selected to audition for the LTV panel earlier this week. This list has been shortened to just nine who will compete in the live final.
France have ditched their selection show Destination Eurovision for 2020 and instead have chosen to opt for the 30 year old singer and comedian Tom Leeb through an internal selection process. The announcement was made yesterday evening.
Following the success of their online selection process in 2019, ESCZ returns in 2020 with seven artists vying to be the the Czech Republic’s pick for Eurovision in Rotterdam. The second of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix shows will take place on Saturday night. Once again, four acts will compete for the chance to sing again in the Grand Final on 15 February. The Norwegian broadcaster NRK added to their line up with the announcement of the artists and songs that will compete in Saturday’s show.
LRT broadcast the first heat of the Lithuania selection show Eurovizijos earlier this evening. 12 acts competed in this heat but only half of the line up could make it through to the semi final phase in three weeks’ time. The other six acts were eliminated. Read on for the results.
