Poland are placing their Eurovision fate in the hands of folk group Tulia in 2019. They will perform the song ‘Pali Sie’ in Tel Aviv. Here’s what we thought.

Tulia have really stumbled on to an interesting concept. Taking a traditional style of Polish folk singing and injecting it with a big ooomph of Rock music. Known primarily for their covers of heavy metal songs from bands like Metallica and Depeche Mode, their interesting vocals have propelled them to fame on the world stage.

‘Pali Sie’ (or ‘Fire of Love’) is a bi-lingual bop, blending perfectly English and Polish lyrics as the foursome belt out undeniably flawless vocals. The tempo of the song is quite sing songy and is inviting the listener to join in.

The video for the song is inspired stylistically by one of Poland greatest cinematic masterpieces in recent years Paul Pawlikowski’s ‘Cold War’. Based in a fire station, the women ready themselves for a performance painting on their make up and donning traditional Polish dresses and headwear. They then take to the stage and give an almost hilarious deadpan performance, standing stock still and just delivering the vocal. Something I hope they recreate on the Eurovision stage in Tel Aviv.
