Over the past four weeks, Sweden has treated us to 28 songs in their national final Melodifestivalen 2019. There have been some upsets with some of the fan favourites not qualifying for the final or the second chance shows and being eliminated from the contest. Nonetheless, now that we have heard all the songs in full, we are in a position to rate and rank them. Read on to find out which were our favourites from this year’s bunch!
Oscar first? Interesting. Very thin on lyrics I feel. My top ten: Wiktoria, Lisa Ajax, Hanna/LIAMOO, John, Anna, Andreas, Mohombi, Jon-Henrik, Malou, Rebecka. I think John Lundvik is a serious contender, as is Wiktoria, though Hanna and LIAMOO may just sneak it. And probably win the whole thing in Tel Aviv.
I think it’ll be Hanna and Liamoo too. Think it’s the best of the ballads, the chemistry between the two of them is undeniable. Of the songs still in the running Malou is my favourite and if she polishes up her vocals she could be a contender in a very ballad heavy final.
In terms of Oscar, the lyrics sum up the song for me: I love it. I love it. I love it love it love it. Possible bias because the Malmo show was the first time I’d actually gone to Melfest, so most of the songs from that semi have a little more significance for me.
Can’t stand John Lundvik or Jon Henrik. I don’t see them doing anything very much different to previous Melfest attempts. And John lundvik in particular looks really smug.
