Eurovision announcements are like buses! You wait ages for one and then loads come at once! Last night Spain chose Miki for Eurovision 2019, this morning Serhat was chosen to return to the Contest for San Marino and The Netherlands become the latest country to announce their intentions, choosing Duncan Laurence to represent them in Tel Aviv in May.
The announcement was made this afternoon by Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS. The 24 year old is a graduate from Tilburg’s Rock Academy. He is a relatively new face and is known for his songwriting ability which he has been developing in the last few years in London and Stockholm. He remarks how his unknown status is a positive:
‘In the past few years many well known artists represented The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. I’m not well-known, but that’s also a good thing; The Netherlands has a lot of young and talented musicians. My participation proves that nothing is impossible. You can suddenly get the opportunity to represent your country on an international stage. I’m very proud to represent my country… I will give it my all!’.
While the Netherlands have announced their artist today, fans will have to wait until 7 March for the song and any other details about their 2019 attempt.
Do you think they’ve made a wise decision. Have a listen to Duncan’s song ‘Reconnect’ below and let us know if he gets your seal of approval with a comment!
