X-Factor Malta hosted the third of their live shows this evening with the remaining eight finalists taking to the stage to sing live again for a place in next week’s final. Half of the remaining acts were given the boot: Kelsey Bellante, Ben Purplle, Norbert and Luke Chappell.
This week’s theme was ‘Movie Spectacular’ and the finalists were invited to sing a song from their favourite movies. The competitors sang a wide range of songs from Coolio’s ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ to Roy Orbison’s ‘Pretty Woman’.
There was a change in proceedings this week. After the acts had performed the phone lines closed for the public vote. In Round One, the two acts who finished bottom of the public vote were Kelsey Bellante and Ben Purplle and they were automatically eliminated.
Following a long ad break which we’ve become accustomed to during X-Factor Malta, it was back to business with another elimination. In round two all the remaining six sang in a sing off. Luke Chappell sang Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?’, Petra gave us a rendition of Adele’s ‘Set Fire To The Rain’, Norbert sang James Arthur’s ‘Empty Space’, Michela Pace did ‘Shallow’ from ‘A Star is Born’, Owen Luellen rapper his way through Beastie Boys’ ‘Paul Revere’ and finally Nicole Frendo performed Dua Lipa’s ‘Scared to Be Lonely’.
The bottom three were all of Ira’s Boys: Norbert, Owen and Luke. Norbert received fewest votes from the public and was eliminated.
The final elimination was down to the judges’ vote. Ray voted to send Luke home. Alex voted to send Owen home. Howard voted to send Owen home. It came down to Ira’s vote. She chose to send Luke home, taking it to deadlock. This meant it reverted to the public vote and Luke was eliminated having received fewer votes out of the two.
The four acts that remain are listed below. They will return next week to sing again in the final of X-Factor Malta. The winner of X-Factor Malta will represent the nation at Eurovision 2019. The winner will be announced on 26 January.
