‘Make your dream come true!’ or so goes the slogan for Romania’s upcoming Eurovision 2019 selection process Selectia Nationala. Following the success of their selection show in 2018, broadcaster TVR will again undertake a multi-city search for their Eurovision representative for 2019.
All in all 24 semi finalists will be chosen to compete in this year’s competition. Artists have been invited to add their submissions through the broadcaster’s website with a deadline of 10 December. It is expected that just under two weeks later, the entries will be sifted and the semi finalist revealed on 20 December. A gift just in time for Christmas!
It is expected that the two semi finals will take place in early February 2019. The finalists will be decided by national jury made up of industry experts who will choose up to ten finalists (max of five from each semi final), while the public will choose one more act from each semi final. In addition to this TVR reserve the right to select one further ‘wildcard’ act from the remaining unselected contestants. This could mean that the final could consist of as many as 13 songs.
The Final itself will be held at the end of February. The winner of the final will be decided by an international jury (50%) and a public vote (50%).
The Humans won Selectia Nationala in 2018 with their song ‘Goodbye’. They narrowly missed out on a space in the Eurovision Grand Final when they placed 11th in Semi Final 2, just 4 points off a qualifying slot.
