Annalisa, Margaret and Diogo Picarra among the winners at MTV European Music Awards 2018!

A number of familiar Eurovision faces had been nominated for gongs at this year’s MTV European Music Awards in Bilbao. This included Nadav Guedj (Best Israeli Act), Zibbz (Best Swiss Act), Benjamin Ingrosso and Felix Sandmann (Best Swedish Act), Annalisa (Best Italian Act), Margaret (Best Polish Act) and Diogo Picarra (Best Portuguese Act).In tonight’s star studded show, presented by Hailee Steinfeld in Bilbao’s Bizkaia Arena, there were performances by Jason Derulo, Little Mix, Nicki Minaj, Panic at the Disco, as well as a medley of hits from Janet Jackson who was the recipient of the Global Icon award.

Leading the nominations was former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabelo with six. On the night she won three trophies including the awards for Best Artist and Best Video and Best Song for ‘Havana’. Other awards on the night went to BTS (Biggest Fans), Nicki Minaj (Best Look and Best Hip Hop) and Dua Lipa (Best Pop).

In terms of the regional categories representing the Eurovision contingent and picking up awards were Margaret for Best Polish Act (participant in Polish Eurovision Selection 2016, Melodifestivalen 2018), Annalisa for Best Italian Act (Sanremo participant 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018) and Diogo Picarra for Best Portuguese Act (Festival da Cancao 2018). Melfest 2018 winner and runner up Benjamin Ingrosso and Felix Sandman lost out to Avicii for Best Swedish Act, Zibbz missed out on Best Swiss Act to Loco Escrito and Golden Boy Nadav Guedj lost to Noa Kirel for the Best Israeli Act award.
