Fresh off the back of her Eurovision appearance in May 2018, Saara Aalto has released new album ‘Wild Wild Wonderland’. The album features the three tracks that were under consideration for Finland’s 2018 Eurovision bid; ‘Queens’, ‘Domino’ and the song that was selected ‘Monsters’. Saara has been busy promoting the new album, touring it extensively throughout Europe in the past few months. Now she is set to bring the tour to our fair shores, when she comes to Belfast’s Oh Yeah Centre on 10 October.
Saara Aalto came onto our radar when she participated in Finnish Eurovision selection show UMK in 2011. Although she wasn’t selected, she impressed with her song ‘Blessed with Love’. She returned to the competition in 2016 with ‘No Fear’ but again narrowly missed out on being selected. Saara became a real household name in the UK when she participated in X-Factor 2016. She was mentored by Sharon Osborne and her covers of songs like Bjork’s ‘Oh So Quiet’ and ‘Let It Go’ from Disney’s ‘Frozen’ saw her through to the final where she placed second behind Matt Terry.
In 2018 UMK chose her as their Eurovision representative and announced that she would be performing three tracks, one of which the public would choose for her to sing at the Contest in Lisbon. They chose ‘Monsters’ and her Brian Friedman choreographed performance gave Finland their first final qualification since 2014. She finished 25th.
