Review: DoReDos- ‘My Lucky Day’ (Moldova)

Artist: DoReDos

Song: My Lucky Day

Country: Moldova

Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆

Ranking: 12th

Betting Odds: 151/1

Riding a high from their best ever result last year, Moldovan band DoReDos will be hoping to emulate the success of Sunstroke Project in 2018 whose smash sax hit ‘Hey Mamma!’ finished third.

DoReDos’ song is called ‘My Lucky Day’ and sees the trio work with the Russian music producer Philipp Kirkorov. Kirkorov is the mastermind behind other Eurovision hits including ‘You Are The Only One’ (Sergey Lazarev- Russia, 2016) ‘Shady Lady’ (Ani Lorak- Ukraine, 2008) and ‘Work Your Magic’ (Koldun- Belarus, 2007).

Typical to Kirkorov’s past attempts, ‘My Lucky Day’ is a fun, upbeat and entertaining romp. It is a folk pop mix with impressive vocals from the three band members.

The staging the group attempted in their national final is also intriguing. It saw them perform alongside a number of reflective panels with a fun dance routine that gives it almost a magic trick feel. The Moldovan broadcaster’s production value at times can look cheap and amateurish and as a result it’s hard to tell if this staging will work on the Eurovision stage, but it’s a good start, it just needs polished.

I do think we’ll be seeing Moldova in the Grand Final, but I don’t think it will be in the top ten, never mind recreate the success the nation achieved last year.
