Many Eurovision fans will know that the 2009 champ Alexander Rybak has returned to the Contest in 2018 with his song ‘That’s How You Write a Song’. However, those who don’t follow the Norwegian singer on social media may not realise that he has been posting videos of him accompanying many of this year’s songs with his own additional violin pieces.
To date the singer has covered songs from Australia (‘We Got Love’), Croatia (‘Crazy’), France (‘Mercy’), Portugal (‘O Jardim’) and my personal favourite The Netherlands (‘Outlaw In ‘Em’). In the spirit of Eurovision, he has posted these videos to show that although it is a competition, there can be camaraderie between the contestants. He highlights the positives in each of the songs and commends the artists for their abilities. He asks the fanbase to do the same: focus on the good rather than being nasty.
