Russia finally confirmed their plans for Eurovision 2018. They will send the singer Yulia Samoilova to Lisbon.Yulia will be given another chance to perform on the Eurovision stage, having been selected to represent Russia in Kiev in 2017. However due to escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the host broadcaster refused to let Samoilova perform as she had entered the disputed territory of the Crimea after the annexation of the region by the Russian state.
Following this, the EBU attempted to reach a compromise, offering Russia the chance to perform the song ‘Flame is Burning’ via a video satellite link. Russia failed to agree to these terms and withdrew from the Contest.
In 2018 Yulia will be back, but it has not yet been confirmed what song she will sing.
