Earlier today, 5 December, Eurovision organisers gave us the first sneak peek at their proposed designs for the stage at Eurovision 2018.
This year’s Contest will take place in the recently renamed Altice Arena in Lisbon, Portugal. The stage design theme seems to be continuing the nautical branding that was revealed last month which revealed the slogan ‘All Aboard!’ and has multiple logos featuring different sea creatures and maritime paraphernalia (shells, jellyfish, waves etc.).
The team responsible for the stage design was headed by Florian Wieder who has said they drew inspiration from four key points linked to Portugal’s culture and history: Navigation, the Sea, the Ships, the Maps. Wieder has also been at the helm in designing the stage layout for Eurovision in 2011, 2012 2015 and again in 2017.
Jon Ola Sand, Executive Supervisor of the EBU, has approved of the sleek, modern look of the set design saying:
‘It will create a very distinctive look and feel for this year’s performers, and we look forward to seeing this intricate and modern set up in action next May.’
