Three Eurovision nations gear up to reveal the competitors for their national selection shows later this week. Slovenia, Latvia and Hungary will announce the competitors for EMA 2018, Supernova 2018 and A DAL 2018 respectively.
RTVSLO announced today that Slovenia’s national final EMA 2018 will consist of 16 participants who will compete in a semi final on a date in February yet to be confirmed. Eight of these songs will then progress to the final which will be held following the semi final round. All songs submitted for the process had to be in the Slovenian language or one of Slovenia’s minority languages. The list of contenders will be unveiled on Friday 8 December.
Hungary meanwhile will kick off their search for a Eurovision 2018 contender with A DAL 2018. The national selection show will be contested over a number of weeks, kicking off on 20 January and finishing up on 24 February. A total of 30 acts will compete in their year’s edition of the competition and these will be announced on Wednesday 6 December.
Latvia will also reveal the artists taking part in their selection show Supernova on Wednesday 6 December. Earlier in the year LTV had posted submissions on their website asking fans to vote for their favourites, these were then shortlisted to a group of 30 who were given the chance to audition in front of a panel of jurors. From this list it is believed that the jurors picked ten outstanding favourites while a little more time was needed to deliberate on the remaining places. It is as of yet unknown how many songs will compete at Supernova 2018.
Hungary’s latest Eurovision attempt last year cemented them an eighth place finish in the Grand Final for Joci Papai’s ‘Origo’. Slovenia and Latvia on the other hand failed to make it to the final with Omar Naber’s ‘On My Way’ finishing 17th for Slovenia in Semi Final One and Latvia’s Triana Park finishing one place behind (last) in the same semi final.
