Russia Wins JESC 2017!


Russia’s singer Polina Bogusevich has won the 2017 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest which took place earlier this evening in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. The young singer was triumphant with song ‘Wings’ which received 188 points, just 3 points ahead of second place finishers and last year’s winners Georgia who were represented by Grigol Kipshidze with ‘Voice of the aheart’. Rounding out the top three was Isabella Clarke from Australia with ‘Speak Up’.

This is the second time that Russia has won the JESC in its fifteenth year, the first being in 2006. The Contest saw the introduction of controversial online voting which allowed people to vote for their favourite songs multiple times for free and even allowed them to vote for their own country if desired. This move is seen as a way to test the waters for introducing something similar in the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon next year.

The voting didn’t exactly work out, as many fans were unable to access the site to vote for their favourite acts due to the website crashing immediately after the voting opened:
