A big announcement from Finnish broadcaster Yle today, reveals that X-Factor UK 2016 runner up, Saara Aalto will represent Finland at Eurovision 2018. The brave move means that the national selection show UMK will be pared back from its usual multiple act over a number of semi finals.
Instead UMK 2018 has been billed as UMK: Saara Aalto with the tagline: ‘One artist, three songs’. Saara, who has competed at UMK in previous years and placed second in 2016 with ‘No Fear’, will perform three songs in a live final on 3 March hosted by Krista Siegfrids and Mikko Silvennoinen. The three songs will be written specifically with her voice and style in mind. The public and international juries will then have the final say in which she will sing in Lisbon in May.
The news may come as a bit of a shock for UK Eurovision fans as the British press had recently rumoured that Aalto was in talks with the BBC to represent the UK at Eurovision 2018.
