2018 will see Australia participate in Eurovision for the fourth time. What was supposed to be a one off in 2015 has become an annual thing for our friends down under. On all three occasions so far, Australia have opted to choose their acts and songs through an internal selection process and broadcaster SBS has announced that this is to continue for their pick in 2018.
And why change something that isn’t broken? The Australian results has seen three top ten finishes out of their three attempts so far. This included fifth place for Guy Sebastian in their debut year in 2015, a second place finish for Dami Im the following year and last year saw 16 year old Isaiah Firebrace finish ninth with ‘Don’t Come Easy’.
All three picks for Australia have had links to Australia reality talent search show X-Factor with Im and Firebrace winning the contest and Sebastian having been a judge on the show. Does this mean that SBS will stay consistent or will they cast their nets further afield. Jessica Mauboy who performed as an interval act in 2014 has expressed interest in representing Australia, as has singer Ricki-Lee.
