Who will follow in the footsteps of Imri Ziv, Hovi Star and Nadav Guedj and win the Israeli Eurovision selection show: Israel’s Rising Star? Well we got one step closer to finding out as the 2018 edition of the competition kicked off at the weekend.
Over 5,000 applications were received by the Israeli broadcaster who have whittled it down to approx 120 who will feature on the live shows over the next few months. 2018 sees the return of the judging panel- Harel Skaat
Keren Peles, Static & Ben El Tavori and Assaf Amdursky and hosts Assi Azar and Rotem Sela who have been given a special veto power for the new season.
As always to get a place in the second round contestants must receive a total of 70%+ from the judges. The first episode which aired on Sunday night saw five acts progress to the next round:
Jonathan Mergui- ‘How Far I’ll Go’ 88%
Netta Barzilai- ‘Rude Boy’ 82%
Jaki Gaforov- ‘Feeling Good’ 76%
Adva Omer- ” 73%
Mor Karbasi- ” 59% (Hosts’ Veto)
