Eurovision fans all feared the worst when one of the Contest’s stalwarts announced the demise of their national broadcaster at Eurovision 2017 and that Imri Ziv may be Israel’s last ever entry. News last month however confirmed that they had reached a temporary solution and would be back for the 2018 edition in Lisbon. This week it has been announced that Israeli selection show Israel’s Rising Star will also return.
The show debuted in 2015 and chose Golden Boy Nadav Guedj as Israel’s pick with rapturous applause among the fanbase, securing Israel a ninth place finish, after four consecutive years of non-qualification. The second season was won by Hovi Star who also made it to the final (14th place) and backing singer for them both Imri Ziv was selected in 2017, again qualifying for the final and finishing 23rd.
Israel will be hoping to continue this Eurovision success when Israel’s Rising Star returns to our screen next week (30 October). The new season is a much expanded version of the show and fans can expect a mammoth twenty weekly episodes that will culminate in the Final in early March.
The hosts and judging panel remain the same for 2017/18 with the Assi Azar and Rotem Sela returning to present. Contestants will have to impress the judges Harel Skaat, Keren Peles, Assaf Amdursky and the duo Static & Ben El Tavori who all return for the new season.
