Slavko Kalezic came to international prominence when he performed ‘Space’ at Eurovision 2017 for Montenegro. The singer became an instant stand out for his bizarre lyrics (Linen is covered with feathers, Wet dreams, Wild nightmares, I surrender…) and his trademark plait whipping dance moves. Although he failed to progress to the live Final, Louis Walsh (who was in Kiev as part of the Irish delegation) convinced him to appear on the UK version of the X-Factor.
Slavko immediately won over panellists Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osborne while Louis Walsh could been seen to be cheering Slavko on from the sidelines. Simon Cowell however seemed less impressed. Slavko took on the Beyonce hit ‘End of Time’ which was odd in that he sang very little and instead focused on showing off his eccentric dance moves and personality. Despite Simon’s initial reservations, Slavko received four yes votes from the judges and will advance to the second stage of the competition: Boot Camp.
Slavko is no stranger to X-Factor having competed in the Balkan region version of the show X-Factor Adria for its inaugural season in 2013. Here he progressed to the judges’ houses round of the contest but was dropped before the live shows. Macedonian and fellow Eurovision representative Daniel Kajmakoski went on to win the show.
