Sanremo Acts to be revealed on 12th December!

Sanremo 2017 Italy EurovisionThe Italian music festival Sanremo will host its 67th edition in the week beginning 7th February in Teatro Ariston in the Italian city of Sanremo. Reports from Italian media outlets suggest that there will be 22 singers competing in this year’s contest and the acts will be announced on 12th December 2016.

The festival is hosted over five nights and not only showcases the best in Italian music with a wide spectrum of new and established artists, but in recent years has also given a number of guest performance spots to popular international artists which last year included Elton John, Ellie Goulding and Hozier.

The festival usually serves as the means for Italy selecting their Eurovision entrant with the winning song from the Big Artists category usually going on to represent the nation at Eurovision. However this is not always the case.

In 2016 the band Stadio triumphed with their song ‘Un giorno mi dirai’ however when they declined the invite to Eurovision, the runner up Francesca Michielin stepped in to take their place, singing ‘Nessun grado di separazione’ and finishing in 16th place in the final of Eurovision 2016.

The artists and songs competing in this year’s Sanremo will be revealed in a special broadcast by RAI next week on the 12th December. Of the competitors, fifteen of the them will advance to the final on the last night of the competition with the top three being selected to compete in the Superfinal, before an overall winner is announced.
