Cyprus were the first country to announce their Eurovision artist for 2017. Hovig will be their representative in Kiev in May and when the singer announced a press conference set to take place yesterday afternoon, the Eurovision rumour mill went into overdrive thinking that he may be about to unveil the first Eurovision song of the selection season.
Unfortunately this was not the case, however the singer posted a picture on Instagram of himself with his songwriting partner Thomas G:Son who he will work with to ready a song for the Contest. Along with the post came the message ‘Meeting with the songwriter! The road to #eurovision2017 gets more and more exciting!’
G:Son is no stranger to Eurovision. The Swedish songwriter has written a number of Eurovision entries over the past few years including the Cypriot entry from last year ‘Alter Ego’ performed by minus one, and most notably the Swedish winning song of 2012 ‘Euphoria’ by Loreen.
While no song announcement has been made by Hovig just yet, he is very much setting his eyes towards the 2017 competition and we look forward to hearing what he and Thomas G:Son come up with.
