A few weeks ago we reported that Armenia are going all out to find their Eurovision entry for 2017 with an all star judging panel including previous Eurovision singers Iveta Mukuchyan and AramMP3. This contest entitled Depi Evratesil (Towards Eurovision) was launched at the weekend and marked the first of this year’s Eurovision national selection shows to get under way.
The contest will run over the course of the next 3 months. It will consist of four stages with 120 acts auditioning in this first stage, and the judging panel choosing which successful acts will make it into round 2. The overall winner will be announced in December and will be chosen by a combination of audience SMS vote and the all star jury vote.
Armenia have a very good Eurovision track record with a seven top 10 finishes in their ten appearances to date. This includes a seventh place finish in 2016 for Iveta Mukuchyan’s ‘LoveWave’ and two fourth place finishes for ‘Qele Qele’ (Sirusho, 2008) and ‘You’re Not Alone’ (AramMP3, 2014).
12 acts made it through from this first show: Saro Gevorgyan, Artsvik, Egine, Alexander Plato, Mary Mheryan, Vahe Alexanyan, Mariam Yevriyan, Syuzanna Melqonyan, Amalya Margaryan, Qristina Avetisyan, Anna Sedrakyan & Only Girls.
