Although both Ireland and Albania failed to qualify from Semi Final 2 last night, they have been battling it out this week in the final of our first ever Eurovision World Cup. We received over 40,000 votes and we can now reveal that the winner of the entire competition is Ireland’s Nicky Byrne with his song ‘Sunlight’. He received 56% of the total vote, equating to 24,530 votes. Meanwhile Albania’s Eneda Tarifa received 44% (a total of 18,919 votes) was our runner up with her song ‘Fairytale’.
In a surprise result, Georgia’s Nika Kocharov and the Young Georgian Lolitaz qualified from last night’s second semi final with their song ‘Midnight Gold’. The band went through to the Final of Eurovision 2016 ahead of some other strong contenders including Ireland’s Nicky Byrne, Denmark’s Lighthouse X, Agnete from Norway and Ivan from Belarus who fulfilled his dream of performing on stage naked with a wolf (albeit through CGI).
With just one day to go until the Eurovision Final and with all 26 finalists confirmed, SVT (the Swedish national broadcaster) have decided on the complete running order for the live show that will be hosted by Petra Mede and last year’s winner Mans Zelmerlow tomorrow night. Following the results of the second semi final earlier this evening, a draw was carried out to determine which of the qualifying nations would compete in each half of the final of the Contest. Although it has already been determined that host nation Sweden will perform in the number 9 slot, we await the rest of the running order which will be decided by Swedish national broadcasters SVT.
