After an absolute stinker last year with Anti Social Media, Denmark are hoping to return to their usually good form at Eurovision with boyband Lighthouse X. The band (pronounced Lighthouse Ten) will compete in Stockholm with their song ‘Soldiers of Love’. We assess if they have what it takes to get Denmark to the Eurovision final this year in our review.
Lighhouse X are a handsome three piece consisting of Søren Bregendal, Johannes Nymark, Martin Skriver- think Il Volo without the Latin sleaziness. Their song is an infectious pop love ballad with an uplifting chorus. Something that we just take as a given from the Scandanavian nations in recent years. The boys show of their voices in expertly woven harmonies and although the lyrics are at times a bit cheesy, it is a solid effort from Denmark.
The band seem to be a bit ‘Anti Social Media’ as they have no social media presence on Twitter, something that could marr their chances as their fans have no opportunity to interact with the band, share their views with them and garner some momentum for the song. Add to this that there is no official video for the song outside of their performance at the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and you would think that their PR machine is broken.
Despite this I feel as though the song should make it through to the final and with any luck position Denmark on the left hand side of the leaderboard in May.
