Iceland’s Eurovision bid kicked off last night when the first semi final was staged with six of the twelve acts competing live. Three of these acts would advance and the other three were eliminated.
Advancing to the final in a fortnight’s time were Karlotta Sigurdardottir, Erna Hronn Olafsdottir & Hjortur Traustason, as well as former Icelandic Eurovision representative Greta Salome.
Unfortunately my personal favourite song in the contest, Sigga Eyrun’s ‘Kreisi’ complete with bizarrely brilliant staging which saw Sigga sing alongside a demonic eyed woman obsessed with pong video game and another dancer in drag, did not advance. Nor did Ingolfur Þórarinsson or EVA.
Semi Final 1 (6th Feb)
Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir & Hjörtur Traustason- ‘Hugur minn er’ (My mind is)
Karlotta Sigurðardóttir- ‘Óstöðvandi’ (Unstoppable)
Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir- ‘Raddirnar’ (The voices)
Sigga Eyrún- ‘Kreisí’ (Crazy)
Ingólfur Þórarinsson- ‘Fátækur námsmaður’ (A broke student)
EVA- ‘Ég sé þig’ (I see you)
Iceland’s Eurovision selection continues next weekend with their second semi final. Again six acts will compete, with three advancing to the final the following week and three acts getting eliminated. Which acts are your favourites? Vote in our poll!
