Melfest Rewind: 2015

Melfest 2015As the first heat of the 2016 Melodifestivalen approaches we take a look back on the songs from last year. Mans Zelmerlow may have been crowned the winner of Melfest 2015 and went on to be the eventual winner of Eurovision in Vienna, but which of the other songs makes up our top 5? Read on to find out!

5  Jon Henrik Fjallgren ‘Jag Ar Fri’

Runner up to Mans, Jon Henrik will be remembered for his bizarre staging of his song ‘Jag Ar Fri’. Jon Henrik was dressed in an colourful eskimo poncho and had angel like figures descending from the ceiling. Also part of the performance was a couple dancing at the side of the stage, lots of drums and the obligatory smoke machine! Relive the song!

4 Mariette ‘Don’t Stop Believing’

Mariette was an early favourite to win Melfest 2015. In the end the best she could manage was third place in the final. Her vocal performance was something that was praised by many fans of the contest and the ballad had a huge impact. However no one could beat the momentum behind Mans Zelmerlow!

3 Samir & Viktor ‘Groupie’

Samir and Viktor were the cheeky duo whose song ‘Groupie’ earned them a place in the Melfest final and saw them finish in eighth place overall. Their performance will be remembered in particular for the performers taking a group selfie with their dancers atop a large box at the end of the song. Samir and Viktor are also back in 2016 and will perform new song ‘Bada Nakna’ (or Swim Naked in English) in Semi Final 1.

2 Dolly Style ‘Hello Hi’

Who could forget Molly, Polly and Holly aka Dolly Style? This girl group who take on exaggerated anime inspired personas in 2015 with ‘Hello Hi’ had us humming the infectious song days, no weeks after we first heard it. Although failing to qualify for the final outright from their heat, they returned in the Second Chance Show and were beaten to a place in the final by Dinah Nah. Not to be deterred the girls are back on the Melfest stage in 2016, competing with G:Son penned song ‘Rollercoaster’ in Semi Final 4.

1 Eric Saade ‘Sting’

And the winner is…Eric Saade, perhaps our favourite ever Melfest contestant. With previous appearences with ‘Manboy’ and winning in 2011 with ‘Popular’, we couldn’t contain our excitement when we found out he was to return in 2015. All dressed in white, dance crew in tow and singing ‘Sting’, a song with hit written all over it, we were sold! Unfortunately Eric fell at the final hurdle losing out to Mans’ ‘Heroes’.

Don’t forget to tune into the first semi final of Melodifestivalen 2016 which kicks off on Saturday 6th February.
