Ira Losco to Represent Malta!

Malta Eurovision 2016 Ira LoscoIra Losco will represent Malta at Eurovision for a second time in 2016 with ‘Chameleon (Invincible)’. The singer was chosen as the nation’s representative following the final of MESC tonight which saw 14 acts in contention for the Maltese selection.

Losco won the contest following the allocation of the public televotes which she topped earning twelve points and a number of international jury votes of which she topped four of six. Runner up was Brooke who came second with her song ‘Golden’ and who got twelve points from two of the international jurors. In third was Franklin with ‘Little Love’.

The show opened with a performance from Destiny Chukunyere who treated us to a rendition of her song ‘Not My Soul’ which is the most recent winning song from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She returned to perform a number of cover songs including ‘Think’ by Aretha Franklin and ‘Black Heart’ by Stooshe for the interval act.

As well as Destiny, last year’s Eurovision entry from Malta, Amber, returned to the MESC stage to sing not only her Eurovision hit ‘Warrior’ but also a number of her other songs. Following her performance the broadcaster ran into some technical difficulties which meant having to go to yet another ad break which featured perpetual ads for Schwarzkopf, Greek yoghurt and Hamilton Travel company.

The Semi Final held the night before saw six songs eliminated including Ira Losco’s other competing song ‘That’s Why I Love You’. Losco will return to the Eurovision when it kicks off in Stockholm in May and she will be hoping she can do one better than her second place finish in 2002 for song ‘7th Wonder’.

The final results were as follows:
