The Eurovision semi-finals, which will take place in May 2016, will air on BBC Four instead of BBC Three, and the final will air as normal on BBC One. The announcement came from BBC Four editor Cassian Harrison who commented that: ‘I’m delighted that Eurovision: You Decide [UK song selection show] and both of the Semi Finals are coming to the channel this year.’
Many fans of the Eurovision Song Contest were worried when it was announced that BBC Three channel was to make the move to showcase its shows exclusively online, meaning that there may no longer be a home for the Eurovision Semi Finals.
Harrison however confirmed his excitement to air the two semi finals in May when he said:
‘BBC Four is the home of music on TV in the UK, and as any fan will tell you, Eurovision is one of the biggest music events on the planet and is much more than just one night of TV, therefore it is only right that BBC Four is able to showcase Europe’s favourite music TV event right here in the UK.’
