SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster revealed earlier today that the Eurovision hosts for 2016 will be reigning champion Mans Zelmerlow and 2013 host Petra Mede. The announcement didn’t come as much of a shock, as bookies had the duo down as odds on favourite to host the contest since Sweden won in Vienna in May.
Many will remember Petra Mede not only from her hosting duties alongside Graham Norton during the 60th Anniversary Concert last year in London, but also for her hysterically witty presenting style when she hosted the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo in 2013. During the contest former Swedish Eurovision Star and Green Room host Eric Saade, gained some attention for referring to Mede as a MILF (or Mother I’d Like to F…).
Mans Zelmerlow of course is known as the most recent winner of the Contest and the reason why Sweden will host it this year. His winning song ‘Heroes’ propelled him to first place and his historic win means that it makes sense for him to take on hosting duties when Eurovision returns to Sweden in 2016.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will be staged at the Globe Arena on Tuesday May 10 (Semi Final 1), Thursday May 12 (Semi Final 2) and Saturday May 14 (Grand Final) with a number of jury, family and rehearsal performances taking place that week.
