It was announced earlier today the Sergey Lazarev will be Russia’s representative for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The announcement was made during the Russian National Music Awards where Sergey also secured an award for Singer of the Year.
Lazarev is no stranger to Eurovision, having attempted to be their pick on a number of occasions including 2008, where he lost out to eventual winner Dima Bilan. Lazarev is known for his pop dance songs and before going solo he achieved popularity when he performed in Russian boy band Smash!!
He will follow in Polina Gagarina’s footsteps as he attempts to do one better than his predecessor and win for Russia in 2016. He took to his social media account to express his delight:
Dear friends!! I am really happy and honored to represent my country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016! I am looking forward to this exiting experience and I hope you will all love my song as much as I do. Wish me luck)) thank you))
As we await the announcement of the song he will sing at Eurovision (expected in the New Year), have a listen to his 2013 hit ‘Cure the Thunder’ featuring rapper T-Pain.
