alex rybak1. Alexander Igoryevich Rybak was born 13 May 1986 in Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union and is a Belorussian/Norwegian singer-composer, violinist, pianist, writer, actor and presenter/host.

2. Rybak sprung to international fame when he represented Norway in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with his infectious hit song ‘Fairytale’. He won the contest but did you know that with a staggering 387 points it is the highest tally any country has achieved in the history of Eurovision?

3. Rybak’s love of Eurovision didn’t stop with this historic win. Although not returning as a performer, he has written songs for a number of other acts. This includes ‘I’m With You’ sung by Annsofi Pettersen for Norway 2013 which placed fourth in the Norwegian national final. He also composed an entry titled ‘Still Here’ for Franklin Calleja in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015 which placed 5th and also composed an entry for the Belarusian group Milki titled ‘Accent’.


4. Following his success at Eurovision, Alexander has gone on to have 4 hit albums including Fairytales (2009), No Boundaries (2010), Visa vid vindens ängar (2011) and a Christmas album entitled Christmas Tales released in 2012.

5. Rybak was baptized and raised in the Orthodox religion.

6. In 2011, Alexander Rybak was one of twelve contestants on the next Swedish season of the dancing show Let’s Dance (Swedish version of television franchise Strictly Come Dancing). He managed to make it to the Top 4.

7. Alexander is the voice of Hiccup in the Norwegian language version of How to Train Your Dragon and its sequel.

8. It has been alleged that Rybak has an anger management problem following several public outbursts. During the trials for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 finals in Bærum, Rybak became so infuriated when a sound technician was not doing what he wanted that he smashed his own hand, breaking his fingers. Again in June 2010 during trials for Swedish Rybak became infuriated and smashed his violin on the floor.

9. Rybak is a long-time fan of Real Madrid C.F., and especially of Colombian star James Rodríguez.

10. Earlier this year Rybak appeared on Russian TV show Your Face Sound Familiar whereby he impersonated fellow winner Dima Bilan with a performance of his hit song ‘Believe’. Watch the video below:
