Tomorrow night (Saturday 7th February) 10 acts will battle it out in the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in an effort to become the Danish Eurovision entry for 2015. But what can you expect from the live show?
First of all expect lots of great entries. Scandinavia do pop like nowhere else and Denmark is no exception with catchy choruses, dance floor beats and top notch dance routines. Expect a rehash of previous Eurovision contestants from Saka Sukurani who has a similar sound to Sertab Erener/Ruslana, duo Tina and Rene who have a bit of Azerbaijan’s Ell and Niki about them to Anne Gadggegaard who looks like Finnish singer Krista Siegfried. Let’s have a closer look at each contestant in turn. Because there are so many I will try to keep it brief, summing them up in a tweet (140 characters or fewer).
Sara Sukurami- Love Me Love Me
Very poppy. Oriental feel. Very 2004- Sertab/Ruslana-esque. Catchy chorus. Na na na nanas. Potential top 3. #SaraSukurami
Tina and Rene- Mi Amore
Male/female duo who look like Duncan James (Blue) and a random drag queen. Fun ballad (think Ell and Niki). Key changes, dramatic finish.
Marcel and the Soulman Group
Funky, jazz six piece with trumpets and sax. Hipster haircuts, thick glasses, blazers. Lots of larking about. Not in English.
Cecilie Alexandra- Hotel A
Holly Valance look alike with soft fragile almost pixie like folky song. Sounds like Emily Haines from Metric. My favourite.
Andy Roda- Love is Love
Danish Hercules. Really annoying, want to punch him in the face. Needs to go away. Sounds like Eric Saade’s ‘Killed by a Cop’.
Julie Bjerre- Close to My Dreams
Looks like a young Kerry Katona, but is going for a Taylor Swift vibe. Bit bland, lacking something.
Anti Social Media- The Way You Are
Reminiscent of band Fun. Slick backed hair. Expect more #hipster than humanly possible to cope with. Bordering on sleazy. Decent chorus.
Anne Gadegaard- Suitcase
Looks like Krista Siegfried. Guitars. Nice. Aspirational. Folky. Likeable, but too inoffensive.
Manjana? Really? As in a portmanteau of man and vagina? Well it is Eurovision. Annoying dancing. Girl appeal. All over the place. Can’t understand.
