Denmark have won Eurovision on three occasions: first in 1963 with ‘Dansevise’ by Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, then again in 2000 and 2013 with the Olsen Brothers’ ‘Fly On the Wings of Love’ and Emmelie de Forest’s ‘Only Teardrops’, respectively. As well as their three wins, Denmark have also had a further 11 top five finishes at Eurovision. However their most recent attempt in 2015 they failed to qualify for the final, as Anti-Social Media’s ‘The Way You Are’ only finished in 13th place in semi final 2.
Danish national broadcaster DR will host Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2016 (in place since 1957) to select their Eurovision entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. They had plans of releasing the songs on 28th January, but due to a song leak which saw all the entries posted to Danish Spotify streaming service, they moved the announcement forward to 11th January.
