Semi Final 2: Why Were the Results Delayed?

There was an awkward moment when presenter Lisa Ronne approached EBU President Jan Ola Sand at last night’s semi final 2 to confirm that the votes were all confirmed and ready to be announced. Something that was quite straight forward turned into a glitch and there has been a lot of speculation as to why the situation arose.

Some sources online seem to believe that it was a technical glitch, while others thought it may have been down to Belarus censoring Austrian entry Conchita Wurst’s performance of ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ because of her drag queen act being deemed ‘unnatural’ by Russian and Belorussian political figures. This however was not the case and the semi final was broadcast in full in Belarus.

Another theory for the delay is believed to be because there was a tie in the number of points received for two acts in tenth place.  Whatever the reason was, the results were quickly announced a short time after the glitch and we now have our 26 acts for the final on Saturday.
